The Ghibli Museum is a must see if you’re a big Studio Ghibli fan. Totoro, Ponyo, Howl’s Moving Castle, Kiki’s Delivery Service, Laputa and Porco Rosso just to name a few. If you haven’t watched any of these yet, put it on your to-do list! Unfortunately there is no photography permitted inside the Ghibli Museum but the highlights were – a giant cat bus with a million black dotties (from Totoro) for kids under 3 to play with, a theatre to watch the latest snippet of a developing film (mind you it’s all in Japanese with no subtitles) and the hundreds of thousands of intricate drawings from brainstorming to anime development to painting individual screens -truly fascinating stuff. Once you see all the work behind a single film it makes you appreciate it all the more.
Entry is only about AUD$20 but you need to book about 3 months in advance to reserve a spot. Enjoy!
